Every year the General Counsel’s Office of Campus Crusade for Christ International and FLAG Faith and Law Around the Globe send a team to the Christian Legal Society annual conference. We host a booth to inform the participants about our internship program and upcoming FLAG events.

This year’s conference at Clearwater Beach, Florida, was a special time. Hurricane Michael blew through the Florida panhandle the day before, but the Tampa area beach was spared. These CLS conferences are always times to greet old friends and make new ones, but the disaster seemed to draw people even closer together.

Shirley Hoogstra, president of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, set a strong spiritual tone Thursday evening. Former Attorney General, counselor and chief policy adviser to Ronald Reagan, Edwin Meese III dispensed his wisdom during an interview and panel on Friday morning.

As always, the conference had a rich selection of Continuing Legal Education seminars. More than one participant commented they wanted to clone themselves to take advantage of more offerings.

Mark Lanier spoke at the Celebration Banquet on Saturday evening. He is founder of the Christian Trial Lawyers Association and the Lanier Theological Library. Author of the books Christianity on Trial and Psalms for Living, he presented highly interesting excerpts from his soon-to-be published book on the Torah.

All who have enjoyed the deep bass voice of Dr. Steve Brown on Christian radio appreciated his sermon on Sunday morning. His edgy humor illustrated important life lessons about love.

Thank you to CLS and all its sponsors for a conference well done.
